The UofSC ITT Lab as a part of Siemens Healthineers’ global network of Innovation Think Tank Labs

As a new and exciting platform, the University of South Carolina Innovation Think Tank (ITT) Lab was established to create a unique place to conduct research and development; where great minds and multidisciplinary teams combine to stimulate impactful innovations. The space is an innovation hub where participants including researchers, faculty members, and students can think outside the box to solve issues in healthcare, artificial intelligence, robotics, and information technology. The ITT Lab at UofSC is the first Innovation Think Tank Lab affiliated with a U.S. university, as part of Siemens Healthineers’ global network of Innovation Think Tank Labs led by UofSC Adjunct Professor Sultan Haider.

Located in the heart of Columbia, South Carolina, the UofSC ITT Lab is a fully-equipped ecosystem for research, innovation, and experiential learning that is available for students, researchers, and professionals to work, study, and create solutions to real world problems. The goal of the UofSC ITT Lab is to grow innovation thought and action within South Carolina and beyond leveraging ITT Lab’s dynamic group of scholars, researchers, industry partners and start-ups. It is dedicated to mentoring and coaching participants to conduct research, design, rapid prototyping, and industry strategic application in a highly creative and connected environment.

Driven by the need for interdisciplinary, self-sustaining infrastructures accessible for the entire location/company, Innovation Think Tank (ITT) was established and has now 16 innovation labs across Germany, China, India, Turkey, the United States of America and United Kingdom which are covering projects from 23 Siemens locations and have achieved break even for all established labs within 0 to 2 years. ITT has worked on over 1,750 projects with 550 experts and managers. Additionally, over 12,000 Siemens employees have taken part in various events, more than 1,500 inventions have been filed and ~1,200 projects continued. Furthermore, around ~2,500 researchers and students from ~150 universities out of 38 countries have worked with ITT.

Innovation Think Tank was founded and is headed globally by Prof. Sultan Haider, who also holds a Principal Key Expert, awarded by the Siemens Healthineers Executive Committee for his outstanding innovation track record which includes the establishment of 16 innovation labs and over 500 inventions and patents filed to today.
